Christian Mysticism - An Introduction

Christian Mysticism is a rather broad category of belief that generally pertains to personal experiences with Jesus, or God. The literature of this field spans nearly 2,000 years, beginning with the advent of the Christ and continuing to evolve even to the present day. The themes generally involve the individual inner experiences of various saints written in the form of guides, poems, and autobiographies. Most of the literature comes from ascetic monks and nuns within the Church, who describe such things as the necessary discipline of the mind and body to receive mystical experiences, the nature of the experiences, and the effect that these mystical experiences have had on their lives. The following links offer only a brief summary of some of the better known mystics (also related: Swedenborgianism).
