The Desert Fathers - An Introduction
During the last decades of the third century, several devout Christians,
despairing of the worldliness of the Church left to live in the desert
as hermits. They lived ascetic lives practicing austerities and forming
monastic communities. Their practices led many to mystical experiences
that have inspired many monks and nuns throughout the history of the Church.
