The Eastern Orthodox Church - An Introduction
After the eleventh century the Roman
Catholic Church split from the Eastern Orthodox Church, and both remain
autonomous to this day. Eastern churches were established in Constantinople,
Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and
Georgia. Other Orthodox churches include those in Greece, Cyprus, Poland,
Czechoslovakia, and Finland. As much of the east has converted to Islam
or become Communist, the church has diminished in size, but it is still
represented throughout the world, including the United States, Australia,
and Western Europe.
