Rudi & Swami Chetananda - An Introduction
page 2
Rudi was born Albert Rudolph in New York City in 1928. At an early age
he showed signs of psychic development, and was exposed to Buddhist, Hindu,
and Western mysticism. Rudi studied under several spiritual teachers,
the most notable of them being Sri Shankaracharya of Furi (one of the
Jagadgurus of the Swami Order of Shankaracharya) and Bhagwan Nityananda
of Ganeshpuri. After many trips to India, studying and practicing spiritual
exercises with his teachers, he was recognized as a Swami (one of the
first Westerners to be recognized as such). Rudi became a well-known spiritual
leader, with thousands of followers in the United States and Europe, teaching
the secrets of the East in a way that was more easily relatable to Westerners.
Rudi died in a plane crash in 1973, but his teachings are still being
carried out in the ashrams he established through his students, one of
the most notable being Swami Chetanananda at the Nityananda Institute.
